Konrad Emil Bloch was a German-born American biochemist who won the 1964 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for his discoveries in the metabolism of fatty acids and cholesterol. Bloch was born in Neisse, Germany (now Nysa, Poland) in 1912. He studied at the University of Berlin and the University of Tübingen, where he received his doctorate in 1934.
