Krišjānis Kariņš moved to Latvia in 1997 after completing his studies at the University of Pennsylvania. He quickly became involved in the country's politics and was elected to the Latvian parliament in 2002. Kariņš served as Minister of Economics from 2004 to 2006 and again from 2011 to 2013. He has been the Prime Minister of Latvia since December 2019.
