Krystyna Skarbek was a Polish spy and agent for the Special Operations Executive (SOE). During World War II, she operated in German-occupied Europe. She was eventually captured by the Germans and sent to Auschwitz. She was eventually murdered by her Nazi captors in 1945. Her killer, Johann Stroop, was sentenced to death by hanging in 1952.
