Following his resignation as Chancellor of Austria in March 1938, Kurt Schuschnigg was promptly arrested by the Nazis. He was imprisoned in various concentration camps, including Dachau and Sachsenhausen, for the remainder of World War II. After his release in 1945, Schuschnigg went into exile in the United States, where he became a professor of political science at St. Louis University.
