Kurt Weill was a German-American composer. He was born in Dessau, Germany, on March 2, 1900. He studied music at the University of Berlin and the Hochschule für Musik in Berlin. He was a member of the Communist Party of Germany and was forced to flee Germany in 1933 after the Nazis came to power. He settled in the United States and became a naturalized citizen in 1943.
