La Malinche served as an interpreter, advisor, and intermediary for Hernán Cortés during the Spanish conquest of Mexico in the early 16th century. La Malinche, also known as Malintzin or Doña Marina, was a Nahua woman who had been enslaved and learned the Mayan language. Her knowledge of both Nahuatl and Mayan languages enabled her to facilitate communication between Cortés and the various Indigenous groups he encountered.
