La Malinche, also known as Malinalli or Doña Marina, was born around the year 1500. A Nahua woman who was fluent in Nahuatl and Mayan languages, she played an important role in Hernán Cortés's conquest of the Aztec Empire by serving as an interpreter and advisor. She became Cortés's companion and bore him a son named Martín.
