John Cale was an American-born musician, singer-songwriter, composer, record producer, and artist. He is best known as a founding member of the rock band Velvet Underground and as a solo artist. Cale was also a member of Theatre of Eternal Music, an experimental music collective led by La Monte Young. Theatre of Eternal Music performed long, droning pieces of music that often lasted for hours.
