Ladislaus the Posthumous was crowned King of Hungary and Croatia on 15 May 1440 in Szeged. The coronation was performed by Archbishop János Vitéz of Esztergom, who was also the tutor of Ladislaus. The coronation was held in Szeged because the Hungarian Diet was in session there. Ladislaus was only five months old at the time of his coronation.
