Larry Doby was the second black manager in the major leagues. He was born in Camden, South Carolina, in 1923. He played baseball in the Negro leagues before breaking into the major leagues with the Cleveland Indians in 1947. Doby was a two-time All-Star and won the American League Rookie of the Year Award in 1948. He retired from playing in 1959 and became a manager in the minor leagues.
