Prior to Lars Løkke Rasmussen's first term as Prime Minister of Denmark, Anders Fogh Rasmussen held the position. Fogh Rasmussen was the leader of the Liberal Party and served as Prime Minister from 2001 to 2009. During his tenure, he oversaw Denmark's accession to the European Union and its participation in the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.
