Laurent Fabius was the President of the National Assembly of France from 1988 to 1992. He was elected to the position by the National Assembly after the Socialist Party won a majority in the 1988 legislative election. During his time as President of the National Assembly, Fabius was also the Minister of Foreign Affairs. He resigned from both positions in 1992 after the Socialist Party lost the 1992 legislative election.
