In 2003, Lee Chun-soo became the first South Korean to play in La Liga when he joined Real Sociedad. The forward had a successful spell at the Basque club, scoring 13 goals in 64 appearances. He helped the team reach the semi-finals of the Copa del Rey in 2004 and the UEFA Cup in 2005. Lee's performances earned him a move to Manchester United in 2006.
