Micheál Martin succeeded Leo Varadkar as Taoiseach, the head of government of Ireland, on June 27, 2020. Martin, the leader of Fianna Fáil, formed a coalition government with Fine Gael and the Green Party following the 2020 general election. Prior to becoming Taoiseach, Martin had served as Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade from 2008 to 2011 and as Minister for Health and Children from 2000 to 2004.
