Leon Battista Alberti died on 25 April 1472 in Rome, Italy. He was an Italian polymath active as an architect, sculptor, painter, musician, poet, philosopher, linguist, and cryptographer. Alberti is considered one of the pioneers of Renaissance humanism and the first modern architect.
