Léon Bourgeois was a French statesman who was instrumental in the creation of the League of Nations. He was the first President of the League of Nations Assembly and served in the League's Council from 1920 to 1922. Bourgeois was also a key figure in the drafting of the Covenant of the League of Nations, which set out the organization's goals and principles.
