The Great Turkish War, also known as the War of the Holy League, lasted from 1683 to 1699 and was fought between the Holy Roman Empire and its allies against the Ottoman Empire. The war began when the Ottoman Empire invaded the Habsburg territories of Austria and Hungary. The Ottomans were initially successful, but were eventually defeated by the Holy League at the Battle of Vienna in 1683.
