Leopold I, Holy Roman Emperor was born on 9 June 1640. He was the second son of Emperor Ferdinand III and his wife, Maria Anna of Spain. He succeeded his father as Holy Roman Emperor in 1658. Leopold was a devout Catholic and a strong supporter of the Habsburg dynasty. He ruled over the Holy Roman Empire during a period of great political and economic change.
