In 1908, Kamenev relocated to abroad. This was because he was wanted by the Russian authorities for his involvement in revolutionary activities. He spent the next few years in Switzerland, Germany, and France, where he continued to be involved in the revolutionary movement. In 1917, he returned to Russia and became a leader of the Bolshevik Party.
