Einar Wegener was the birth name of the Danish painter Lili Elbe, who was born in 1882 and died in 1931. Wegener began her transition to womanhood in 1930, and underwent a series of surgeries to become the first person to receive sex reassignment surgery. Elbe's story was made into the 2015 film The Danish Girl, starring Eddie Redmayne and Alicia Vikander.
