Longview, Texas, was founded in 1870 by two brothers, William and James Long. The town was originally named Long Station, but the name was changed to Longview in 1873. The town was located on the Houston and Texas Central Railroad, and it quickly became a major shipping point for cotton and timber. In 1904, Longview was incorporated as a city.
