Lou Andreas-Salomé was born of mixed heritage, her mother was a Russian Jew and her father was a German Lutheran minister. She grew up in a multi-cultural household and was exposed to a variety of religious and cultural traditions. This exposure helped to shape her own worldview and her interest in psychology.
