French inventor Louis Braille developed a system of raised dots that allows blind and visually impaired people to read and write. Born in 1809, Braille lost his sight at the age of three due to an accident. He attended the Royal Institute for Blind Youth in Paris, where he developed his system, which was first published in 1829.
