Louis-Ferdinand Céline was a French novelist, essayist, and playwright. He was born in Courbevoie, Hauts-de-Seine, on May 27, 1894. He is best known for his novels Journey to the End of the Night (1932) and Death on the Installment Plan (1936), which are considered to be among the most important works of modernist literature. Céline was also a controversial figure, due to his antisemitic and anti-American views.
