Who helped Céline after his conviction?

  • An anonymous lawyer

  • A military tribunal

  • A group of fans

  • His family

Answer

After being convicted of treason by a military tribunal in 1945, Céline was sentenced to death. However, a clemency petition from his friend, the writer Maurice Sachs, resulted in a commutation of his sentence to one of hard labor. Céline was then transferred to a prison camp in Germany, where he remained until his release in 1947.
