Louis Francis was born in 1923. He was an American jazz saxophonist, clarinetist, and flautist. Francis began his career in the 1940s, playing with various big bands, including those led by Count Basie and Duke Ellington. He later became a member of the Jazz Messengers, a hard bop group led by Art Blakey.
