Answer
The Republic of Venice was forced to renounce the Dalmatian towns in 1358 by Louis I, King of Hungary and Croatia. The Venetians had been in control of the Dalmatian coast since the 12th century, but their power was waning. In 1356, Louis invaded Dalmatia and conquered the city of Zara. The following year, the Venetians were forced to sign a treaty renouncing their claim to the Dalmatian towns.
