The Red River Resistance was a negotiation that occurred between 1869 and 1870 between Métis people and Canadian government officials. The Métis were a group of people who were descended from French fur traders and Indigenous women. They had settled in the Red River Valley in what is now Manitoba, Canada. The Canadian government wanted to take over the Red River Valley and the Métis were opposed to this.
