Louis XVII was not able to rule as King of France because he died in captivity before he could rule. He was imprisoned by the revolutionaries during the French Revolution and died of tuberculosis in 1795 at the age of 10. His death marked the end of the House of Bourbon and the beginning of the First French Republic.
