Torreira made his debut for the Uruguay national team in 2018, at the age of 22. He had previously represented Uruguay at the youth level, and was part of the team that won the 2017 South American U-20 Championship. Torreira has since become a regular member of the Uruguay national team, and has played in several major tournaments, including the 2018 FIFA World Cup and the 2019 Copa América.
