Lucius Tarquinius Priscus, who reigned from 616 to 579 BC, was the second king of Rome. He was born in Etruria, a region in central Italy. He married Tanaquil, the daughter of a wealthy Etruscan landowner. Tarquinius Priscus was a skilled military commander and expanded the Roman kingdom. He also built many public works, including the Temple of Jupiter Capitolinus.
