Lysimachus was a notable officer in Alexander the Great's army. He served as a commander of the companion cavalry and was one of the closest friends of Alexander. After Alexander's death, Lysimachus became one of the Diadochi, or the generals who fought to control the empire. He eventually became the ruler of Thrace and Macedonia.
