Pavlichenko joined the Red Army in 1941, at the start of the German invasion of the Soviet Union. She was a skilled marksman and quickly rose through the ranks, becoming one of the most successful female snipers in history. She is credited with killing over 300 enemy soldiers during the war, including 36 enemy snipers.
