M. Ashraf started out as part of a duo, singing duets with his wife, Mehdi Hasan. They were known as Mehdi-Ashraf, and were very popular in the early 1960s. After their divorce, Ashraf continued his solo career, and became one of the most successful playback singers in Bollywood.
