M.S Swaminathan passed away on 28 September 2023. He was a world-renowned agricultural scientist and a pioneer in the development of high-yielding varieties of rice. He was also a key figure in the Green Revolution, which helped to increase food production in India and other developing countries. Swaminathan was awarded the Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian award, in 1971. He died at the age of 95.
