Macky Sall was a member of the Senegalese Democratic Party (PDS) before establishing the Alliance for the Republic (APR). Sall was elected to the Senegalese National Assembly in 1993 as a PDS member and served as Minister of Foreign Affairs from 2000 to 2002. He was expelled from the PDS in 2004 and established the APR in 2005. Sall was elected President of Senegal in 2012 and reelected in 2019.
