After Maharana Pratap died in 1597, his eldest son Amar Singh I succeeded him as the ruler of Mewar. Amar Singh I was a capable ruler and he continued his father's policy of resisting the Mughals. In 1615, he led a successful campaign against the Mughals and captured the fort of Chitor.
