Mahmoud Darwish was born in 1941. He was a prominent Palestinian poet and writer, often regarded as the national poet of Palestine. His works covered a wide range of themes including love, loss, identity and the struggle for Palestinian rights. He published over thirty volumes of poetry, eight books of prose and several plays.
