Fraser successfully challenged Billy Snedden in 1975. The Liberal Party was in government at the time, but Fraser was unhappy with the way Snedden was running things. He believed that Snedden was too weak and indecisive, and that he was not doing enough to combat the growing power of the Labor Party. Fraser challenged Snedden for the leadership of the Liberal Party, and he won.
