Manuel II Palaiologos was the Byzantine emperor from 1391 to 1425. He was the younger brother of Andronikos IV Palaiologos, who was emperor from 1376 to 1379. Andronikos IV was deposed by his father, John V Palaiologos, who then took the throne himself. Manuel II was crowned co-emperor in 1390, and he succeeded John V as emperor after his death in 1391.
