Janco arrived in Palestine in the 1940s, during the period known as the British Mandate for Palestine. He was attracted by the thriving art scene in Jerusalem and joined the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design. Janco brought the teachings and techniques of Constructivism to the local art community, becoming a prominent figure within the Israeli avant-garde.
