Marcian ended all subsidy payments to whom?

  • Zeno

  • Attila

  • Leo I

  • Pulcheria

Answer

Attila was the leader of the Huns, a nomadic people who terrorized much of Europe in the 5th century. In 441, Attila invaded the Eastern Roman Empire and captured several cities. In order to buy peace, the emperor Theodosius II agreed to pay a large annual tribute to Attila. In 450, Marcian became emperor and ended all subsidy payments to Attila.
