William Cavendish, 1st Duke of Newcastle-upon-Tyne (25 November 1592 – 24 December 1676), styled Lord Cavendish from 1605 to 1623, was an English soldier, courtier, diplomat and politician, who served as Lord Lieutenant of Nottingham and of Monmouthshire. He was also an important patron of the arts and a noted horseman.
