Margot Fonteyn was an English ballerina who is regarded as one of the greatest ballerinas of the 20th century. She was born in Reigate, Surrey, in 1919 and began dancing at the age of four. She joined the Royal Ballet in 1934 and became a principal dancer in 1938. She danced with the Royal Ballet for over 20 years and retired in 1962.
