Vestager served as Minister of Economic Affairs and the Interior in the government of Helle Thorning-Schmidt from 2011 to 2014. During her tenure, she oversaw the implementation of a number of reforms, including the introduction of a carbon tax and the establishment of a new national energy agency. Vestager also played a key role in the negotiations of the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP).
