Marie-Thérèse married her cousin Louis Antoine, Duke of Angoulême in 1820. This was arranged to secure the succession of the Bourbon dynasty to the French throne, and it was also seen as a way to bring peace between the two countries. However, the marriage was not a happy one, and the couple had no children.
