Marina Tsvetaeva was born on October 8, 1892, in Moscow, Russian Empire, as Marina Ivanovna Tsvetaeva. Her father, Ivan Vladimirovich Tsvetaev, was a professor of art history at Moscow University, and her mother, Maria Alexandrovna Meyn, was a pianist and poet. Tsvetaeva was a precocious child, and she began writing poetry at a young age. She published her first book of poems, Versty, in 1910.
