Mark Knopfler was raised from the age of seven in Blyth, Northumberland. He was born in Glasgow, Scotland, but his family moved to Blyth when he was seven years old. Knopfler attended the King Edward VI School in Blyth, where he met his future bandmates, John Illsley and David Knopfler. The three of them formed the band Dire Straits in 1977.
