Answer
Mark Latham was a research assistant for Gough Whitlam and Bob Carr. He was first employed by Whitlam in 1982, and worked for him until 1983. He then worked for Carr from 1984 to 1987. Latham's time as a research assistant was formative for his political career, and he credits Whitlam and Carr with teaching him the importance of policy and research.
