Mark Spitz was named World Swimmer of the Year in 1969, 1971, and 1972. He is the only person to win this award three times. Spitz was a dominant force in swimming during the 1970s, winning a total of seven gold medals at the 1972 Summer Olympics. He is widely considered to be one of the greatest swimmers of all time.
